Rico and Jenkins Victorious at Masters Cup

Local favorites Carrie Burlogar and Nate Doss both had the edge going into Sunday’s final round. Both players held the lead in addition to their knowledge of the scenic and sometimes evil Delaveaga. But would that those advantages be sufficient for the victory?

Steve Rico came from the second card to force Avery Jenkins into a sudden death playoff . Avery's 9-under score of 63 wasn't enough to hold off the hard charging Rico who shot a tournament best 1-under 61. Steve carried that momentum forward by winning on the first hole of sudden death hitting a 50 foot uphill putt after Avery's 65 footer came up just short.

Valarie Jenkins erased a two throw deficit in the final round shooting a women’s best 2-over 74 to beat Santa Cruz native Carrie Burlogar by one throw. Burl couldn’t hold off Val’s long drives and consistently accurate approaches as Val caught and then took the lead half way through the round.

Geoff Lissaman and J Michael Barry both Cruz-zed to victory in the Masters and Grand masters divisions.

Marty Hapner was awarded the Ed Headrick award for his work over the years in the Norcal area promoting disc golf. Past winners of the award include Kenny Climo, Tom Schot, and Des Reading.
