2008 Bowling Green Amateur Championships

The world’s largest amateur disc golf tournament will tee off on Saturday morning as 720 amateur disc golfers converge on central Kentucky for the 2008 Bowling Green Amateur Championships. Tournament director, Ernie Small, and his hard working staff will be on hand Friday from 3:00pm to 6:30pm to extend a warm welcome and a generous player’s package to all of the competitors as they check in prior to the 7:00pm mandatory players meeting at Phil Moore Park.

The format for this year’s event will have each division play four rounds of eighteen holes on four of the eight different courses being used in the tournament. A shuffle after the first 36 holes will reassign players with similar scores into new pools for Sunday’s final 36 holes. A final nine is scheduled for 3:00pm at Phil Moore Park with the awards ceremony immediately following.

The courses being used for this year’s event are Franklin, Kereiakes, Phil Moore, Ephram White, Griffin, Preston, Hobson Grove and Lovers Lane with each one offering a unique and diverse challenge.

The weekend will be filled with plenty of ancillary activities. Friday is jam packed with all sorts of disc golf games, challenges, contests and doubles. A Saturday evening FlyMart will give everyone in attendance the opportunity to purchase some really cool disc golf related merchandise from all over the country. Representatives of the PDGA will also be in attendance both nights so keep an eye open for the PDGA booth and come by to meet the friendly staff.

Photo galleries of the weekend activities will be available at PDGA.com courtesy of PDGA Media and staff photographer, Karolyn Garlock.
