2,500 Courses and Growing!

Congratulations to Cody Crocker of Neosha, Missouri for submitting information on the 2,500th course to be added to the PDGA Course Directory. In helping us reach this milestone and the celebration of the just published 20th Edition of the PDGA Disc Golf Course Directory, we will be sending Cody a free course directory and a one year subscription to Flying Disc Magazine. The 20th Edition of the course directory will be shipping from the Pro Shop by Wednesday Dec 12th, 2007

The 20th Edition of the PDGA Disc Golf Course Directory is designed to provide accurate and timely information on all functioning disc golf courses in the world at the time of its printing. It is organized alphabetically by U.S state and then by country. The accuracy of the information on the courses listed is entirely dependent on the players and PDGA Coordinators who reviewed and updated the information at the Directory’s online location: www.pdga.com/course.

The increasing number of courses is mainly due to the fact that disc golf is so much fun. Other factors include increased basket marketing by disc manufacturers, the efforts of the PDGA to promote the sport and an increase in club interest in installing new courses. The PDGA has assembled some very useful course development resources. If you are looking for good information on developing a new disc golf course visit: www.pdga.com/cd_start.php

Improvements in the online Directory also continue. We now include fields for GPS info, better mapping and a cool search function. Look for the PDGA’s Course Map Project to launch in early 2008. A slick course map making tool developed by Greg Koppel should soon allow folks to create nice custom course maps online and upload them to the course directory.

Our current version of the online directory uses great mapping technology from google.com. You can click on a map to see all the courses within a certain radius, then zoom in to street level or zoom out to see a depiction of disc golf courses at the state or regional level. In many regions you can even view satellite imagery to get a sense of the terrain and foliage at a course location. The online directory can be found here: www.pdga.com/course/index.php

We hope that the 20th Edition of the PDGA Course Directory helps you find fun courses and great times. We all owe a debt of gratitude to longtime course directory guru, Cliff Towne, for his ongoing work and dedication to the course directory project. Thanks Cliff!
